tonight we are excited to broadcast another live performance from norwegian jazz trio IN THE COUNTRY. pianist/composer morten qvenild, bassist rogerarntzen and drummer paal hausken draw influence from minimal scandanavian jazz, country music and Norwegian folk songs to create a sound downbeat magazine's peter margasak lauds as "...packed with gorgeous melodies that unfold slowly and calmly. qvenild’s rangy piano successfully brings a vocalic quality to the fore while the rhythm section delivers a roiling, slow burn to create an exquisite tension." The recording is from their second chicago appearance, at the empty bottle's "music for changes" series, and is honestly one of the most beautiful sets we have had the pleasure to broadcast. drummer paal hausken is touring the US with norgwegian vocalist hanne hukkelberg and bassist roger arntzen will be performing at hungry brain sunday, 3/30 with his more experimental dou, ballrogg.
