we are very proud to present a special live set from ambient pioneer robert rich as part of our annual post-turkey thanksgiving drone. often miscategorized, robert rich started his career at 13 by building his own synthesizer and by the early 80s was studying at stanford's center for computer research in music and acoustics. while at stanford rich gained notoriety for a series of all night "sleep" concerts; playing live to a sleeping audience (obviously this man is luke's hero.) since then rich has released over 40 albums and adds these comments for this rare live recording:
"This was a completely improvised concert with minimal equipment, performed for a small audience at a private venue in Umbria, Italy in 2000. The audience was ready for a deep listening experience, so there are no rhythms, and the pace is quite slow. Hopefully your audience will enjoy this on Thanksgiving!" – Robert Rich

tonite we are happy to feature a newly released live recording of amon tobin performing in brussels (2007). it's representative of the massive surround sound sets amon rocked during his "foley room" tour--including one of absci's memorable 10th anniversary shows at the metro. the set is available as a free download at the www.amontobin.com store. also featured in the store are the new amon tobin t-shirts designed by chris widman (based on his design for the aforementioned metro show posters.) check the shirts—the ones with the skulls—here.
