MARTYN [3024, revolv:r, tempa, netherlands]

dutch born dj/producer martijn deykers, aka martyn, is currently exploding; one of those rare artists able to use opportune timing and a wealth of experience to bridge the factional subgenres of electronic music. martyn cut his teeth promoting the infamous "red zone" drum 'n bass nights in einhoven, nl (1996–2007) before breaking into the genre worldwide with a series of popular 12"s (on revolve:r, play:musik and bassbin) noted for their chicago/detroit influence. taking the tempo down a notch, martyn surprised many in early 2007 with "broken/shadowcasting," a deep 12" that gained attention from the likes kode9, gilles peterson, mr scruff, pole and laurent garnier with it's deft marriage of dub techno and prototypal 2-step rhythms. with the further blessing of tempa records (via tempa all-stars 4 & dubstep all-stars 6), martyn found his singles compiled on labels from ~scape to soul jazz. building on this foundation, martyn started his own 3024 imprint and has become an in-demand remixer--his rework of trg's "broken heart" named as one of the top dubstep 12"s of 2008 by pitchfork's martin clark. in may 2008, martyn landed a slot at the prestigious mutek festival in montreal, cementing his reputation as an international artist able to draw together the dubstep massive, d'n b refugees and techno intelligentsia. don't miss this adventurous dj on chicago's best sound system.
