tune in to our THANKSGIVING annual drone

as part of its yearly presentation on thanksgiving, abstract science is very proud to present two special live performances from ambient luminaries REFORMED FACTION.

>REFORMED FACTION [ klanggalerie, soleilmoon]

REFORMED FACTION is a musical group formed in 2005 by three former members of ZOVIET FRANCE: Mark Spybey (Dead Voices on Air, Download, Zoviet France), Robin Storey (Rapoon, Zoviet France) and Andy Eardley (Zoviet France) who would leave the group in 2006 . After the groups seminal concert in Vienna on 10 November 2005 they found themselves releasing their debut album "Vota" on the Austrian record label, Klanggalerie. Their second album, “The War Against…” was released on Soleilmoon Records in September 2007. Their most recent release in 2009 is a lavishly packaged triple album entitled “I am the source of light, I am not a mirror,” on Soleilmoon Records. Their new and upcoming album, “Until,” will be released by the Italian label Greytone in January 2010. They also have two vinyl albums coming out soon on Russia’s Brudenia Records and Tourettes Records from Houston, Texas. In the fall of 2010, Soleilmoon will be releasing a new album and they will also be re-releasing both “The War Against,” and “I am the source of light, I am not a mirror.” The band continues performing and recording today as a duo of Mark Spybey and Robin Storey. www.myspace.com/reformedfaction

The first performance was recorded live at Moritzbastei, Leipzig, Germany on 15 september 2006.The second performance was recorded at Kreuzberg Keilig Kruez kirche, Berlin, Germany on 7 october 2007.

tonite: CONVEXTION - recorded live @ smartbar 2008

abstract science is proud to present a live performance from
convextion, recorded live october 2008 at smartbar. gerard hanson is
the sort of elusive figure that die-hard techno fans adore. under the
aliases convextion and E.R.P (event related potential), hansen
released a series of influential 12"s on sean deason's dearborn,
michigan-based matrix records between 1995-1997. hanson's ability to
integrate the dubwise sound of berlin's basic channel with the
futurist soul of classic detroit techno was widely praised by djs and
eventually blessed by techno founders derrick may and juan atkins--the
self-titled "convextion" nestled between revered detroit artists on
may and atkin's commercial mix releases. despite the initial success,
or perhaps because of problems related to it, hansen cloistered
himself in his hometown of plano, texas and released only two
recordings (on the tektite and down low labels) between 1997 and 2005.
but thanks to the zeal of down low, 2005 marked the start of a new
string of 12"s and remixes (model 500, deepchord), followed by
hanson's debut european live performance and long awaited full-length
album in 2006 (finally released on CD this june). his dramatic
emergence from obscurity and solid live performances have led to a
steady stream live shows in europe and japan. recorded at smartbar in
october of 2009 this performance was part of a night presented by
abstract science and sound+ featuring dave siska, chris widman,
jeff pietro, and merrick brown.

sound+ notes:
this set contains mostly unreleased material so we have much to look
forward to, the last nine minutes are sublime. his record on semantica
and a crc remix on métisse have both been released + also keep an ear
out for an upcoming e.r.p. album. he'll be playing at the audium in
madrid on 14.11.09.

thanks to gerard, sound+ and gridface.com for the photo.

tonite on abstract science: BURAKA SOM SISTEMA

tonight abstract science is proud to present a live performance from buraka som sistema, recorded april 2009 at sonotheque, chicago. hailing from lisbon, portugal, buraka som sistema are the leading lights of the city's kuduro scene. imported from the former portuguese colony of angola, kuduro was born of the long standing african penchant for caribbean dance music and the late 1980s introduction of american/european electronic music. combining calypso, soca, house and techno with local kilapanga and semba music, angolan dj/producers teamed up with portuguese-speaking mcs--toasting, jamaican dancehall style--to create a popular sound that followed lusophone immigrants to lisbon. in 2006, lisbon producers lil john, riot, conductor (originally from angola) and mc kalaf formed buraka som sistema, to update kuduro with further infusions of house, rave, baile funk, dubstep and grime. with the support of mia and london's fabric--the first "original" release from the nightclubs in-house label--2008's "blood diamond" full-length found worldwide acclaim for it's hard-hitting, bass-heavy dancefloor appeal. but however you want to parse it's complex development, the result is party music, plain and simple. special thanks to jessica from spectre.

PLUS: listen for a chance to win tickets to tomorrow night's BASEMENT JAXX, MSTRKRFT, MODESELEKTOR massive.
