ANDERS ILAR live p.a. recorded at effektverket, göteborg, sweden-november 2007 via sound+.

sound+ notes: anders ilar currently lives in göteborg, on the western coast of sweden. born in 1973, he grew up in ludvika, a small town surrounded by forests, lakes + expansive skies. at six years of age, he started playing piano but lost interest after taking some lessons. fascinated by electronic sounds + science fiction, ilar grew up listening to depeche mode, kraftwerk + tangerine dream. as a teenager, he started playing with synthesizers, sequencers + drum machines which resulted in countless tracks recorded on tape. but never feeling completely satisfied with his productions, he decided to give it a rest in 1997. a few years later, computer software allowed him to finally create the sounds that he sought + he started producing again. his first official release was on his own label, pinesky, in 2000 which was followed by some emotive twelves on shitkatapult. from deep techno for echochord to more abstract compositions on audio.nl to his melodic techno on plong! + level to the darker acid tracks on dsp + narita, anders ilar demonstrates his range across genres.

well it's not really a reunion, but it's been a while since chris widman has joined luke stokes and henry self at the wluw studios--in over 13 years of broadcasting, the past five weeks has been his longest absence. but as the photo above illustrates, the absence has not been without it's merits. tonight will feature widman back on the decks with exciting new music from HRDVSION, THE GLITCH MOB, GHOSTLY RECORDS, MICHAEL FAKESCH (formerly of funkstorung), a preview of artists coming through chicago in the next week including FSTZ (4/9), LORN (4/10), STEPHEN BEAUPRE (4/10) + KRADDY (5/15) and a chance to win tickets to see LORN, QUADRATIC, THE EARSMITHS and more @ the kinetic playground on saturday night (a special ATOMS FOR PEACE (thom yorke) after party. next week: RJD2 recorded live @ the metro!

AROVANE live p.a. recorded @ club achtermai, chemnitz, germany-2000 via sound+

sound+ notes: born in hamein, germany in 1965, uwe zahn is also known as arovane. as a teenager, he started experimenting with microphones, treated tapes + casio keyboards. eventually moving onto an analogue modular synth with effects + later, a digital synth workstation with digital effects, he also experimented with treated turntables, vinyl + clarinet. he moved to munich in 1989 + joined six and more, a collective of musicians for live electronic improvisations, who performed in germany + released cds on archegon. within a few years, zahn had moved to berlin, set up a studio + began production on the electronic breakbeat style which led to making tracks for radio massive. in 1998, he released his first record as arovane titled "i.o." on torsten pröfrock's [aka T++] label din. his acclaimed album, "tides," was released in 2000 on city centre offices. collaborations with artists such as phonem, christian kleine + jake mandell followed with releases on several labels + performances worldwide. in 2005, one year after releasing "lilies" on city centre offices, zahn announced that he was going to take a break from making music.
