sound+ notes: geir jenssen, born in tromsø norway in 1962, has been producing for over 25 years. initially inspired by the music of new order, depeche mode, wire + brian eno, he bought his first synthesizer in 1983. from 1985 to 1990, he was a member of the synth trio bel canto with nils johansen and singer anneli drecker. after a short-lived relocation to brussels + two releases together, jenssen decided to pursue a different musical direction + started using a sampler. his earliest solo work was influenced by acid house + techno, released under the aliases of e-man + bleep. in 1991, he began using biosphere under which name he created more atmospheric + abstract sounds that have been compared to aphex twin, coil + miles davis. jenssen has scored music for several films including eternal stars, investigation into the invisible world + insomnia. originally commissioned by l’atelier de création radiophonique de france culture, his album "autour de la lune" was a tribute to jules verne. he has collaborated with german producer pete namlock as well as bobby bird of higher intelligence agency. also an active mountaineer, jenssen's "cho oyu 8201m – field recordings from tibet" was inspired by his highest climb of cho oyu in the himalayas.
