smartbar [chicago] – may 2006

abstract science is proud to present part one of a two-part recording featuring live performances from Deadbeat, Crackhaus (Deadbeat and Stephen Beaupré) and Stephen Beaupré at Smartbar last spring. Montreal’s Scott Monteith (aka Deadbeat) and Stephen Beaupré have been steadily gaining notoriety as laptop performers through regular appearances at the Mutek festival and subsequent Mutek tours of South America and China. Although Deadbeat’s stream of releases on the Berlin-based ~scape label and his frequent collaborations with Monolake have established him as one of the premier electronic dub artists of today, it’s in his live performance that he really kills it. Deadbeat’s solo performance is then followed by his collaboration with Stephen Beaupré (Crackhaus) – a crowd pleasing and raucous take on Montreal’s signature micro-house sound. aired on wluw 21 september 2006. pictured deadbeat (scott montieth) + stephen beaupre in the 1962 gardens.
