smartbar [chicago] – september 2006
abstract science is proud to broadcast a special set from Japanese hip hop pioneer and turntablist DJ Krush. Inspired by the film “Wildstyle”, Krush formed the influencial Japanese rap group Krush Posse in 1987 and by the early 90s exploded solo onto the international scene with albums on Mo’ Wax and work with lauded US hip hop artists C.L. Smooth and The Roots. His output since has been prolific and ecclectic—still rooted in the hip hop “boom bap” but delving further into collaboration and carefully crafted atmosphere. As a club performer, DJ Krush reaffirms his stature as one of world’s most creative DJs/turntablists, recreating studio trickery with his hands, efx and a little help from a custom mixing board. aired on abstract science 16 november 2006.
