sound+ notes: sasu ripatti, born in oulu, finland in 1976, produces organically visceral + lusciously textured sounds as vladislav delay. before entering the electronic music world, he was a jazz percussionist + cites "philly" joe jones, the drummer for the first miles davis quartet, as one of his primary influences. after experimenting with electronics within band environments, he started producing on his own + his first record, "the kind of blue," was released in 1997 on huume. ripatti has also released on the much-lauded chain reaction, mille plateaux + force tracks labels. resonating with other landmark artists of the 1990s, such as basic channel + pan sonic, he now collaborates with moritz von oswald + max loderbauer [the moritz von oswald trio] as well as with mika vanio, lucio capece + derek shirley [the vladislav delay quartet]. his other projects include; the dolls with composer craig armstrong + sound artist antye greie-fuchs, agf/delay with greie-fuchs + kinovida with visual artist lillevan. his aliases are uusitalo, luomo, bright people, sistol + conoco. ripatti performs worldwide on a regular basis + has a forthcoming sistol remix project featuring john tejada, carsten nikolai, faultydl + more. this live p.a. was performed in 2003 at mutek in montreal, canada. the duration is 105 minutes.
